Resized? If so, there's nothing to be proud of noise-wise, if that's what you were trying to show.

Thats serious Noise reduction applied either inside camera or in the computer.

Exemplary performance, based on this crop. Would be great to see a couple from the red curtain as well. The slight softness may be to do with the noise reduction in-camera and possibly the lens itself. But in terms of the amount of noise, the result is very pleasing indeed.

It was raw, and my Noise reduciton on camera was turned off.
and none was applied in the raw processor.

I'll get a crop of the red curtain in a second.

the lens used was a 50mm 1.8 at F2

Here is another shot from the day before.
Just my nephew, shot with my Tamron 18-200mm.
Iso 3200 and again no noise reduction.
from RAW format.

Although noise-reduction in camera was set to 'off', I think there's still a good degree of it going on to create the 'pitted' appearance I'm seeing in the crops. Reminds me of the noisy photos from my camera after going through DPP with Chrominance noise reduction set to 'high'.

Well i double checked Lightroom (the program i use for RAW files) and all of the Noise reduction sliders are at 0.
double check my camera and it's still in off.

All i did was open the raw, export as jpeg, and in photoshop i resized and saved.
and like a already said, the resize for the mask had a slight unsharp mask applied but that's as far as it went.

Very nice :) Like you, I was impressed mightily with some test shots taken in-store. Now I need all the willpower to spend money I do not have.

Yes, I understand that...no noise-reduction was performed on the images on your part. However I am under the impression that cameras in the different categories of Canon's range handle noise differently. For example, the 1-series cameras tend to produce images that are more noisy but hold a little more detail whereas the 400D or a 40D chooses to remove the noise instead. This is all independent of the user's choice as to whether to apply noise reduction or not.

The noise reduction on camera that we actually have control of seems to be the 'dark-frame subtraction' method that is employed by the camera at longer exposures if we choose to activate it. But for exposures shorter than about a second or so, I don't believe this kicks in at all, even if it's set to 'on'.

Again, just my assumptions and impressions. Others may discredit this.

In short however, the images above show how low the chrominance noise is in a 40D image.

I'm eager to get mine and try some concert shots at 3200. I've had some decent results with the 20D, but I've found that if the exposure is even slightly off, the results are disastrous...
