if i have an old canon eos, will i be able to fit the lens onto my new canon eos 400d?

yes, you will :). digital helps reveal flaws though, so you may find yourself not as satisfied with the quality as you were when using it with film.

and also, i own two particularly old minolta lenses.
i have no idea whether i will be able to fit them onto my 400d.
any ideas??

im sad now.
are you sure?
ive only recently got into photography but ive read that if there is a red dot on the side of the lens this means it is compatible with EF cameras?

lenses with ef bayonet mounts will fit. minolta lenses will not.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some older EF lenses from third party maunfacturers (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc,) may not work with today's newest Canon DSLR's.

It is sometimes possible for the manufactrer to "re-chip" the old lens, but not always.

oh and i have a vivitar lens.

Yes, if the Vivater lens is for an older Canon EOS film camera, it will fit your 400D.

Try it and see if it works properly. Usually it will work, but some lenses might give an error message.

I believe they were for my dad's Minolta and Pentax film cameras.
It would be great if they did fit but its not the end of the world!
