Excellent set of shots Pete. Looks like he needed a little wash too, absolutely covered in pollen isnt he lol. I find bees very difficult to get shots of as they are on the move so much.

I like the strong background colours, would have been nice to see some different positions.

Thanks Brian, Joan, Linda, Toby, Bernie, Bill and hiddenforms :D
He was sat still for a while having a wash. There were quite a few bees and hoverflies on these flowers. I could have stayed and watched them all afternoon but the missus was getting bored.
It was only the second time Ive managed to get shots of bumblebees normally they move all the time and when they do stop their heads are buried in the flower.
very good point about getting different positions I never thought about it at the time  I did get some other shots but I found it difficult to get focus when the bees were moving. My lack of experience will keep practicing :D
I tried a couple of times to get in flight shots with the 105 macro no chance. I have great admiration for you guys that do.
Thanks again for your comments very much appreciated
Pete

Very good shots Pete, especially the last one which I think is the best of the 3. Well done, I find Bees etc very hard to get at the best of times ;)

Thanks Dave the last shots my fav too
There is a little bit of noise in the background which is better on the origanal tif files than the web jpegs but I would like to clean it up if poss.
These are full frames not crops.
I realise that noise is a fact of life when doing natural light shots at high iso and the fact that I used - 2/3 exp comp to correctly expose the bee and the colours are bright increased the noise
whats the best and easiest way to improve this
I have looked into noise ninja seems very complicated for a computer novice like me
