this lense canon FD 50mm 1:1.8 S.C. work on a canon 40D?


Canon EOS 40D + BG-E2 Zoom Lens EF-S 17-85mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM with EW-71B Hood, 50mm f1.8 II.

no, but nikon lenses will... and pentax screwmounts.

Sorry, no. Canon EOS cameras require lenses with EF mounts (or EF-S, which is a variation of the EF mount). FD-mount lenses will not work.

When Canon went to autofocus cameras, they considered all the problems and came to the conclusion that the old FD mount would not suffice. They therefore abandoned the FD mount completely and came out with the EF mount for their autofocus EOS cameras.

EF mounts are electronic, and communicate with the camera electronically for aperture control, etc.

FD mounts are mechanical, and use a mechanical aperture control.

There are adapters to mount FD lenses on EF mount cameras. They are generally not that good. They are discussed here.
