I got at great deal like that on a 30D a few months ago on Ebay. Just a minute later I got the email to send Western Union to someone in Canada, before I even got the notification from Ebay that I won. A couple hours later the auction was cancelled (after it was over, yeah) and Ebay reported the sellers account was hijacked by a ripoff. Fortunately I didnt send payment. Hopefully you got an honest deal.

Well that's cheery!
Nothing to suggest I've been ripped off so far so fingers crossed I've got myself a reasonable deal.
I'll let you know when it arrives.

I figure if a seller won't take Paypal or credit card (where I have some protection) he can sell to someone else...

If the 30D price downtrend continues (which it will) till the end of the year, it may actually be financially wise for me to downgrade my camera body to a 30D and sink more cash into glass. Prices are indeed very tempting. Compared to prices in the past, things are much more affordable now.

Wow, just went to Ebay and found 30D for less than I saw 20D a few months ago. How low will they go?

heh you carry on using your 30D, I rather pay the difference as the difference between in my eyes 30D and 40D is well worth it, and now the 40D, is like £679-00 with cash back

I had a 30D and now a 40D :), I sold mine for £400-00 with about 7k on shutter 3 month old.

I'm not looking at the difference between 30D and 40D. I'm looking at the difference between 350D and 30D. A new 40D is unaffordable at the moment however flogging off a used 350 and adding £100 to get a used 30D doesn't seem that bad a deal!

I'll make my standard suggestion to those looking to buy: Watch the forums here before going to ebay. You have a much better mechanism for validating a seller here than on ebay. You also know you're buying from a user who knows what condition it's really in. I've found prices to be as good or better, too, because you weed out the yahoos who would otherwise bid too much (a common ebay phenomenon).

Since my purchasing a 40D has saved you so much on your purchase of a 30D I think it is only fitting that you should show your grattitude by sending me a small donation. I will accept checks, money orders, or cash (preferably cash) but no credit cards. PM me for an address to send to. To save you more money please send folding money only as coins will only drive up the cost of your postage.

Well it arrives tomorrow.... While I'm at work of course! Hopefully I can talk the wife into picking it up for me Wednesday so we'll have to wait to see how it all turns out.
I do feel however that several people have kinda missed the point of the post. That being that in the rush to upgrade to the latest and greatest an awful lot of quality kit is made available to those who can't afford to or aren't prepared to blow the family budget on a camera. Just because there's now a 40D doesn't mean the 30D is a steaming turd.
I'm looking forward to my 40D, it'll be here a couple of months after the 50D is announced.
