Since my purchasing a 40D has saved you so much on your purchase of a 30D I think it is only fitting that you should show your grattitude by sending me a small donation. I will accept checks, money orders, or cash (preferably cash) but no credit cards. PM me for an address to send to. To save you more money please send folding money only as coins will only drive up the cost of your postage.

LOL... ok but I want first refusal on that 40D

If the 30D price downtrend continues (which it will) till the end of the year, it may actually be financially wise for me to downgrade my camera body to a 30D and sink more cash into glass. Prices are indeed very tempting. Compared to prices in the past, things are much more affordable now.

I just did it... I dropped from a 1D MKII to a mint 20D with 500
actuations. I have faith in my 300 f/2.8 non IS...

Congrats! I'm quite happy with my 30D and I am sure you will be too!

Back in February, when I was looking for my camera, I was actually planning on buying the 20D... with such similarities it didn't make sense for me to spend more money. It turns out I found the 30D at such a good rate that I couldn't refuse (it was actually cheeper to buy the 30D plus two lenses, bag, memory card, cleaning kit, and filters than to buy the 20D body). I know I would have been more than happy with a 20D, though, had I went that route.

Anyway, I am rambling... bottom line... I'm glad you found the 30D and it worked out for you and saved you a bit of cash! Money saved = money to put toward fun camera toys! :)

ONE handsome husband + THREE cute puppies + ONE 30D + THREE pieces of glass (Nifty Fifty, 18-55IS, 55-250) = ONE happy EmmyLou!

It is not half price. Something is wrong with this UK market.

I bought my brand new 40D in Japan for 520GBP.

Digital rev with cash back about £550-00

Ok so the 30D's not quite half the price then, but still £327 cheaper.

hmm,, in fact tbh a new 30D £559-00 is actually more expensive than a 40D now in UK if you imported, and canon not offering cash back on 30D either

Can't help but think you've missed the point somewhat.
Assuming I can get £250 for my 350D, £270 if I throw in a card, 3 spare batteries and a hard case.
used 30D = £100-120 extra
40D = £452-472 extra
5D = £730-750extra
Is it so surprising I see the used 30D option attractive?

Well depends what you want out of the camera, I shoot 95% sports, football, and the 40D is worth any amount over the 30D for speed AF improvement, tracking, and brighter VF, for me.

If you shoot macro, landscape, and night shots, live view is prob worth it as well, not to mention the far better ability to lock AF in the dark over the 30D,,,,not a lot left really then.
I had a 30D and I got some great shots with it for sure, got more from 40D all ready, from football, the keeper rate is just so much higher.

All that counts is you are happy, so fine.

Same thing happens with Car's. As soon as the manufacturer changes specs and or body style your value plumets. Thrift shoppers win!!
