'First of all, they don't transfer warranties on anything - oh really, there's some NEWS for everyone on POTN who says otherwise!!!
'

Actually all of canons warranties say this. Anyone who says or thinks otherwise hasn't read the fine print or are talking about a third party warranty.

I know...now. So why do people post in the For Sale section that the product is "under warranty" (not third party) or comes with a blank warranty card? If you don't have both the warranty card and the original receipt, you're probably out 'o luck...

I've brought my 24-105L used and the original seller provided the original B&H sale slip and the warranty card...

Maybe it's why they say it's still under warranty..

But for you, I would be pissed to have a shutter failure at a low shot count.

Could also be 18,000... or 28,000... or 500. File Numbering is nothing to go by, especially if you use multiple CF cards.

I believe continuous file number is possible on the 5D and that is what my camera is set to. Could be wrong about that...? ? ?

Continuous file numbering is fine for counting now, but perhaps the original owner did not have it on continuous file numbering before you got it. My 30D came set to renumber every time I reformatted CF cards. I had to change it myself to continuous file numbering.
