ok i returned the 4gb ultra 2 card seemed to download slow, direct to the hp computer on the compact flash bay. my question is this a computer issue or the card? i am now thinking to step up to the extreme 3 one but it depends if it suffic with the ultra 2? second q i have is in uv, bought a hoya hmc super from henrys uv(0) and was told this the best there is. any opinions or the cheaper ones suffic?

To answer your first question, it is likely a a computer issue. Well, not really an issue, just a limitation. The compact flash bay is likely only connect via USB1.1 or even 2.0 to the motherboard. Nonethless, you can expect fairly slow transfer speeds. For the fastest transfer speeds, you want to utilise an external card reader with IEEE 1394 (Firewire) 400 or 800 connections.

To answer your second question, I'll need a little more information. That filter would be good for some lenses, but not all. If you have an L lens, you're definitely going to want to get a better filter. Perhaps B+W.

Just curious, which Henry's location did you buy the filter from?

I have Ultra II cards for both my cameras and the downloads are MUCH faster via the USB cable and USB 2.0 than with a PCMCIA card on a laptop.

B+W is the best brand of filter that Henry's keeps in regular stock at store level. For your lens, however, the Hoya you bought will be perfectly fine to use. A B+W on that lens I think would be overkill.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

How are you downloading your photos to your computer? Cable connecting the camera and your computer, or are you using a card reader? If a card reader, is it USB, PC Card adapter, or IEEE 1394? PC or a Mac?

Call me insane but I always buy the Cheap $20 Promaster UV filters, The reason is this.. If i were doing a Paid shoot, or I am about to take some shots that are of Some importance, I will always take off the UV, I own 2 $900+ lenses, If I spend the $100 on a good filter I have $100 quality glass, I rather take off the UV and have $900 glass for my shots. So with that said if I am going to take it off why spend the extra $$.. But for the most part, If I am just out with the Family or shooting random stuff, I will leave the UV on.. It is on mostly for protection...

I on the other hand like to use my full £££ worth of glass so I leave hoya pro1 filters on. They have no effect on image quality and stop all the dust and crap getting onto the lens.
