CAI Cameras in Santa Fe Springs, CA is closing their retail storefront and has incredible discounts on everything. They are a full photography shop that just couldn't keep the storefront open due to overhead costs. They've got Canon, Olympus, & Nikon equipment including accessories, camera bags/straps, books and professsional studio equipment & lighting. I'm not sure if they will ship or not. Their website is http://www.caicameras.com/ (external link)

Poo! I see no discounted prices, but it appears that they are shipping.

ONE handsome husband + THREE cute puppies + ONE 30D + THREE pieces of glass (Nifty Fifty, 18-55IS, 55-250) = ONE happy EmmyLou!

While it's very unfortunate another local store is closing and I'm empathetic to the ownership and employees, it doesn't take a Harvard MBA to understand why they are closing. Their prices are not competitive with other local dealers, such as Canoga Camera and Samy's. Or even B&H. Additionally, I wonder how much advertising they did or whether they truly optimized their website for search engines.

I hate to say it but having a very strong web presence and competitive pricing is key to success. While differentiating yourself from the competition is important, one cannot forget that price and delivery of product are also important. A dealer has to move inventory in volume and quickly. Canoga Camera, B&H, and Samy's all have overhead yet manage to continue as an ongoing, successful concern.

I tip my hat to those that start-up a new retail store, regardless of speciality. It's a cut-throat business world these days.

Gear: Kodak Brownie and homemade pin-hole cameras. Burlap sack for a bag.

Hmm.... Bargain... a 420EX for $220 when I can get a 430EX for $20 more from B+H!

I just got back from the store

Here's a brief list
AT COST - Canon, Nikon bodies & lenses (SOLD OUT)
40% off Filters
30% off Bags (including Crumpler)
70% off darkroom supplies
tripods ask for special pricing

I have a full printout of their list, but getting lazy to type it out
The manager there told me their sale started two weeks ago. The store will be open till around the 16th I think.

My goodness, yeah I can see why they are closing. Even if they discounted some lenses 30% they wouldnt even come down to what we can get them for elsewhere... Holy crap!
