This is a sudden thing on my part. Wife's birthday coming up Wednesday. We don't exchange gifts, so it is more of a joke gift that "we" might use but probably just me.

Anyway, the issue is, what should I buy? I pretty much want the top of the line WII but I don't know if the consoles are all the same anyway. I see accessories like a Nanchuck, or something like that. I can figure out which games to buy, but I want to have a complete system right out of the box with cool bells and whistles. Budget is pretty much unlimited, so please let me know what I NEED and what I will regret if I don't have it.

I've heard these things are a blast for plying tennis, golf, and other sports games. If so, I look forward to the play. Right now I have the Xbox 360 but it is not a game type thing where there is any activity by me whereas the Wii looks like I am more physically active.

Thanks for your list of "must have" things that make the Wii special. Remember, $$ are not nearly as important than the fun.

Joe

Wii Sports is by far the best game I've played on it, and it comes in the box. Make sure you get 2 controllers though! Super Paper Mario is a great game, but you have to read the entire story line which is quite long! I wasn't very impressed with Zelda on it, and I haven't tried any others. Depending on where you have everything set up in the room, you may want to get a wireless sensor bar. Oh, and rechargeable AA batteries too!

I second the Wii Sports recommendation.

And the rechargeable batteries. And a fast charger. And the second controller.

In fact, pretty much everything Adam just said :-)

Oh, I also have composite video cables for mine for use on a wide screen projector. I could tell a huge improvement! If used on a TV smaller than 42", you might not be able to tell much of a difference though.

So far so good! Thanks. BUT, I see it comes with the sports package, which is great, then there is stuff like Tiger Woods Golf, Madden Football, and some other tennis game. Are they really better than what came with it?

Video cables, I agree with getting good cables, I have a 65" TV in HD so imperfections unfortunately stick out.

I like the wireless idea, is it something that goes through my wireless Internet, or just a stand alone wireless system?

As with everything else, am I buying just before a major upgrade? If a new system is coming out soon, I'd take a pass on this one.

Looks like the tennis, bowling and other sports stuff is worth it on its own. Fun stuff. I am an older fart so I hate getting games that take a long time to learn. I own a 360 and only play a few games as I don't want to spend the time to learn too many controller codes. Are the basic sports package really user friendly so I can play pretty quickly without having to lean a lot of function keys?

Thanks again.

there wont be a replacement for the wii for a while, its still a new console.
Wireless works without any problems for connecting to the net/updating etc.

Ive had the following games.
wii sports.
wario.
rayman.
zelda
red steel.
and a golf game (cant remember the title its no the tiger woods one)
wii play

the only games that i kept are sports and the golf one, didnt like any of the others.

I will probably sell mine when the eyetoy comes out for the ps3 as the only time we use the wii is when friends come around, i must admit it is fun then.

oh and the sports games are very easy to use, at christmas we had my nan playing (mid 70's) and my neice and nephew (5 and 7) and everyone picked it up no problem.

hope that helps

When I got my Wii a month ago, it came with one regular controller and a nanchuck controller. The Wii Sports game was included with it. If you want two controllers, which I highly recommend, you'll need to get that separately. I got my 2nd controller when I bought the Wii Play game which came boxed with a controller.

As for networking, without buying anything else, you can connect wirelessly to the internet via the wireless network you already have in your home. If you aren't wireless but have a wired network, you'll need to get a wired network adapter for the Wii player to connect to your network.

I just got a wii about 3-4 weeks ago and I love it. I got driver, NFS Carbon, super paper mario, mario party 8, and then downloaded a bunch of games onto it... super mario bros, donkey kong, super mario bros 2... wish 3 would get released lol.

But yeah, definitely get 2 controllers, 2 nunchucks and if you like donkey kong or other old games, get a classic controller because you will need it.

I love the wii, best game system I have owned yet.

make sure to get a second remote, and another nunchuck. Also, if you want to play virtual console games, get a classic controller. The Wii has wifi built-in, and you can download a good number of old NES, Super NES, and N64 games directly to your console in seconds. They require this controller. It's only 20 bucks.

The wii is a fantastic console, and I've had more fun in the past month of owning mine than in years of owning other systems. Bowled a 300 the other day. :-)

As for games, I've got probably 7 or 8. No idea what you like, though. I really do think Wii Sports is the most fun, but I also enjoy games like Heatseeker (jet fighting game) and Need for Speed: Carbon.

I wish it would, too. Someone tried to tell me they had it.

Yeah same here... give it time. They seem to be releasing more and more games.

But I agree, I have had more fun beating Donkey Kong in the short time it took me more than I did years ago... Ya just never know what ya have til you dont have it. Always been a nintendo fan!

wario is fun and if you get the 2nd controller, throw in another 10 bucks and get the Wii play, it comes with a game and a 2nd controller for 49.99 where as the controller alone is 39.99

I also found this today. It should help anyone who already has a Wii. Free controller jackets from Nintendo. http://www.nintendo.com …/jacket/jacketrequest.jsp (external link)
