I have been fidling around with my 40D for a while and am now away on holidays for 2 more weeks (Stupid me left the booklets for the camera at home!)

I have set some Custom Functions to be engaged with 'C1' however when in 'C1' i cant adjust Shutter-Apeture-ISO or anything as its all full auto (As if i was in 'Green Box Mode' with some Custom Functions Enabled)

How do i work around that and do Custom Functions i have enables and set to 'C1' take effect when shooting in 'M' as they still appear in the Menu as being set when shooting in 'M'.

Hope that makes sense?

Thanks.

Turn your dial to MANUAL and re-set your functions then re-set your C1 setting in the Custom Functions menu.

You are not erasing them but re-writing over them w/changes. Turn your dial to C"x". Make your changes. Then go to your Cn menu and set the C"x" function to the new changes.

You can continue to make changes.

I have set C1 with everything i want, However turning the dial to C1 i cannot set Shutter Speed etc etc it is all auto.

How do i set it so that my C1 Custom Functions take place in M mode?

If you already have everything the way you want it, then what's the issue...oh wait you want it to be set to MANUAL instead of AUTO....see below.

If you set C1 with AUTO on you can set it to MANUAL on the same way. When you set your C1 Function originally your dial was turned to AUTO thus it's still in AUTO when you turn the dial to C1. To change this you need to reset you C1, but this time set dial to MANUAL before you hit "set" in your Cn menu. This is the ONLY way to do this...sorry.

I understand what you are saying and am only trying to give you the answer. Clearly stated you must reset your C1 this time with the dial in M vs. AUTO....:p

You need to be in one of the normal modes like Av, Tv, P or M. Then set the camera the way you like - ISO, exp. comp. whatever. Then go into the menu and tell the camera to memorize these settings as C1. Camera user settings it is called. Then, when you turn the dial to C1, you get those settings. Sure, once you are in C1 you can still spin dials and adjust things but it will always start with the settings you had it memorize.
