Lovely captures- it's a weevil possibly Rhynchites aequates. You'll have a bug infested carpet shortly or do you let the mantis clear up ?

today i was looking back at the pics thinking this isnt no good..my pics are looking crap..the carpet is messing my pics up..

lordv i always make sure the insects go back where i found them..i have 20/20 vision and make sure even the ahipds and baby ones go back safely..i may feed my prey mantis live insects but when it comes to shooting them in wild im very careful./.

lordv - what do u sergest would be a good back drop and floor for the insecs.,.i was thinking a cotton tshirt..mayby black?not at you level at mo so im having to shoot like this to get the best shots i can.

he was moving very fast and wouldnt stop for long so they where best shots i could get..not to bad i guees.

I normally would try to keep the bug on a leaf if I've moved it, but do sometimes just shoot on grey cardboard or even printed paper. I think a simpler base would be better but I'm quite used to seeing carpet fibres as I have mats in the garden that flies and spiders like to perch on.

Nice detail amongst the fibres... ;)

If it were darker, I'd suggest Gonzo from the muppets.
