If i were shooting with this lens then i will keep my fstop within f11 up to f16, i can try f8 as well.

Exactly, you will not lose anything by trying, practice is a good way to learn, and we will wait your shots, as i didn't do macros very long time ago and i don't have that 5:1

Macro_Junkie, im nearly always shooting around f11 for all magnifications. I try and get my shutter up around 1/200, which isnt a problem as im nearly always using my 430EX, and i find this gives me very sharp shots. I add a little USM after they have been resized for the web too.

Just have a play about and see what works for you.

Alistair.

for best resolution you probably dont want a smaller aperture than f8 from 3:1 to 5:1. You certainly got great eye detail in these. For more DOF stacking is the answer but its tough at higher mag.

Like them all- I prefer detail to more DOF in general but it depends on what you after. There is no easy answer unless of course you focus stack :).
You can get lovely shots with high detail shallow DOF or with High DOF and lower detail - just a matter of taste/style. So there is no magic Fstop you have to use at any given magnification with the MPE-65. Just find your own preference!

Brian V.

I was trying to get eye detail on an aphid Yesterday aswell - Taken at about 4:1 F4.5 100% crop not focus stacked- bloody thing would not keep still :) .

Great series :D The last one is my fave although I also really like #3. I think #1 and #4 both have too shallow of a shallow of a DOF :(
