It looks like I am going to have to learn to use manual focusing in low light situations where the f/1.2 is needed. This lens is sharp! - It is the only one I have that equals the 35L. It is just won't nail the focus on auto focus in low light. Having said that, when you do nail it----------Wow!

My favorite prime.....I can't say that I've had any problem with it focusing in low light. Yes, it's a slow focuser, but it generally nails it for me.

Yes, I think I wasn't giving it quite enough time under very low light conditions.
I don't find it any harder to attach than other lens - as some had mentioned.
This is one sweet lens!!

What camera body are you using it with... you have a bunch of them. Is it doing this also with the N?

Depending on the subject matter, I have trouble auto-focusing MY 85/1.2 in any light with an aperture between f2.0 and f1.2, but it tends to do better then any other lens I have period. The problem is the razor thin depth of field at those apertures.

this is why I usually take three shots wider then f2.8, one for me breathing at the wrong time, one for the model breathing at the wrong time and one for luck. :)

One of them 3 will be in focus.

Are you guys incapable of using MF? lol I know at that aperture it can be hard to nail it.... but, it's an option ;)

Dont take that first sentence the wrong way.

I am using the MK IIN.

Jeff --------- your right, I've been lazy and gotten used to AF. The past several days I've been using manual focus and getting better. One of my problems is these no-line bifocals. I seem to have better luck taking the glasses off and using the diopler. The results are getting much better now and this lens is every bit the Q of the 35L or even better.

I purchased the 85L two weeks ago and I have been working with it on my 5D for a 3 days shoot that starts tomorrow.
I got word this morning that I will not be able to use a flash.
The minimum focus distance was the hardest for me, focus speed is OK because I am used to the 50-1.4.
Enjoy your new toy.
