A short while ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to shoot our friend's wedding. This was our first excursion as lead photographers (we had a very good friend shoot 3rd, as my wife was also in the wedding.

A lot of our favourite shots ended up in black and white on account of the magnificent church, which was, unfortunately, made entirely of wood (floor, walls, ceiling, etc), which tended to cast an overbearingly wooden tone to a lot of our indoor shots.

A longer "best of" gallery is available here: http://gashphotography.com/portfolio.html (external link)

Although it was exhausting trying to manage a 30+ person wedding party (yes, you read that right), we had an absolute blast and are working on shooting more weddings in the near future.

Any and all critiques are welcomed (photos, processing, website, etc).

Rob,
First of all thanks for sharing. In sharing and having others like me post thoughts--you will learn and grow. I think we all need to learn and grow. In saying this I do not want to hurt your feelings but will be direct.
Your pictures are ok. Nothing great. Here are a few initial thoughts on each photo:
1-- Brick wall---ick. Maybe if you crop it out
2--Good capture of emotion--but may not be the best angle for the bride
3---You have a beautiful bride to photograph but neglected to see what was behind her. She has a flower hat/hair thing going on.
4--The tree takes over the picture---the angle is a bit wrong--lots wrong with this one
5---Nice ring shot--
6--Ok shot --good emotion but angle of capture and maybe cropping will assist
7---good shot-- the greateast but difficult one to capture

Ok---you asked about your website--- You have a lot of decent pictures. On a website you need to have only your great pictures. You have a few great pictures ---but you also have some that are good but cropping would make them great.

Again--I hope I have helped and brought some thoughts to possible improvement.

Scott:

I do appreciate the feedback -- that's precisely why I posted here (after lurking around for a long time). As much as it can hurt to hear critiques of your work, it's the only way to learn what to do better the next time.

This first wedding was a big jump for us -- 30+ people in the wedding party, 3 days of shooting, and having to do it for a close friend, all added to the stress.

We're already working on pairing down the "portfolio" work to a more reasonable number.

Thanks again for the feedback!

-R
