Does anybody know of any sort of camera armor or a silicone skin like they have for cellphones that would fit the G7... I need something to protect it from nicks/scratches/bumps. I've got a small Crumpler pouch for it, but i need something extra for climbing trips where it may hang off my harness for a 300 ft climb and I won't have a spare hand to take it out of the case.

Thanks!

Get the small Pelican case for it. There are many sizes, one will fit. Someone posted elsewhere that it solved his need for something durable while motorcycling. Otherwise, the Canon soft case envelopes the camera in leather, but it won't prevent dings from dropping the camera onto rocks or something. These leather cases (SC-DC50) can be bought from ebay or from TechBuy in Australia.

I've looked at all those, but they aren't quite what I'm looking for. I need to keep the camera protected, but I'm often literally hanging 200ft above the ground by one hand so it can't be in any sort of case... it needs to be readily available.

When I climb, it's on terrain like this...

Hence, I need something like this...

Just use a chalk bag and a separate tether, anything else will make it too cumbersome to use one-handed, especially hanging from a face.

You might be able to fashion something at a Home Depot, where they have tool belt pouches in thick suede material that has some body to it.

I remember my father-in-law wrapped a TV remote in the foam like you get when you buy a computer, so that when it was dropped on a hard terazzo floor it wouldn't eventually break.
