Im going to ask ym question here because I feel like my fellow rebellers wont judge me :)

Ill give you the scenario. Ill be taking some Makeshift studio(by this i mean My living room, againt a wall with a backdrop) shots of my daughter indoors of course, and have a large patio glass door open with No blinds on the right. So i guess my main lightsource would be on the righthand side, on an overcast day. What would I want my settings at? Mainly my ISO. Im reading to set my ISO to 200.. but that doesnt seem right. I could just play with it.. but id rather ask for opinnions because Well, Shooting a toddler is REALLY hard and have got to be quick..lol

As long as you have enough light, ISO 200 should be adequate, try and shoot about f4 and shutter speed will vary depending on the amount of light. Minimum I would try and aim for is 1/60sec if possible. Maybe ISO400 at max to help.

If the light is too strong from outside, this about trying to soften it with white baking paper or a thin white cotton sheet. Apart from that, invest in a flash or some stobes.

Whilst this may not be the best option but the link below were taken with a 580EX II(on camera) and 430EX(on lightstand with white umbrella).

Not technically correct but it was a start. The room was an undecorated lounge with white walls and natural light. Helping to have some flash or stobe can help to improve the light quality.

See and i feel though that the stock flash is really powerful. So i dont want to go too powerful on the flash. But like you say with the adequate lighting i may be able to achieve what i want. I tend to do really harsh exposure , and i am trying my damnedest(sp?) to really improve my issues. And yes , i am doing this by using my daughter as my guinea pig ;)

The stock flash is ok, you can give it a try. Try and create some sort of diffuser as it can be pretty harsh with shadows.

Harsh exposure is fine but it can be very unflattering. What additional flashes and off shoe flashes allow you to do is direct your light where you need it.

Best thing is set up first and take some shots, shoot RAW so you can adjust later. After that you can go back and review your pictures and see if you do need any other equiptment.

Not knowing the settings will make it hard to diagnose the noise problem. Higher ISO is the leading cause of noise I believe.

Yeah, the XTi doesn't do so great with higher ISOs, but sometimes it's either have some noise or don't get the shot at all. With a moving object in what looks like low light, you may not have had a choice. Are you using full manual mode? Flash?
