Yeah that's probably what's going on. I imagine this is how the XT owners felt when the XTi came out. But I'm going to be departing soon to, up to the 50D and beyond, or I might settle for the 40D.

I'll probably upgrade to the 50D next year, but the XTi is still a great camera.
....will be keeping mine for a back-up body.

Yeah, I've certainly felt left out with all the 40D-50D talk going on.

But the good news is another summer with my XTI and I feel even more comfortable with it. And hopefully take better pictures all the time.

Thanks for popping this thread up again.

I bought my XTi (first DSLR) in April, and so far, results have been just fine. I haven't found the XTI to be limiting so far, so I have no immediate plans to upgrade.

The last photo I took with my XTi was #25,118 for me, I've had the camera since June of last year. Not a single problem with it either ;)

I think now is actually a good time to buy an XTi. It is better than the XS, at just about the same price. Right now, you can pick up an XTi, with a 430ex flash, and a Tamron 17-50 for about $1200, and that rig will take some fantastic pictures. I don't think you can get a better setup for that price (without going used).

Rebel XTi, 430ex, Tammy 28-75, nifty fifty, kit lens, tons of reading, not enough practice, and two gorgeous subjects (my kiddies)

I just got an XTi in the past couple of months, so I still check this thread with regularity, looking to glean nuggets of information on how to use my camera better. I've gotten some great shots, and many other disastrous results.

However, I know that the big factor in getting a great picture from the XTi is operator ability, so I'm going to keep trying and hopefully learning from my other XTi brothers and sisters here.

Rock on!

I have XTi since July and made about 3,000 shots with it since then. It is a great camera for the price, but I found some limitations/inconveniences in it:
1. Viewfinder. Dark and small.
2. No ISO in the viewfinder.
3. Impossible to change ISO without looking at the screen rather than into the viewfinder.
4. No AutoISO.
5. No spot metering
6. Very bad location of "ISO" button. I use left eye to look into the viewfinder and I always press the ISO button by my nose making it changed from 100 to 1600. And since there is no ISO in viewfinder I even don't know about it during the several shots! That is the biggest complain I have about XTi's ergonomic.
7. There is no way to turn off flash but leave the AF-assist. No Flash Control in the menu.
8. ISO is limited to 1600 which is in many cases not enough.
9. Crappy small LCD screen: it is impossible to analyze the picture using it, hard to say do I need to re-take the picture or not.
10. Useless Print button.
Actually, that is why I've upgraded up to 50D (I was playing with 40D for a month before buying the 50D). This is really big upgrade. All complains have been resolved.

I have had my 400D since it was first released. In that time my photography has developed immensely. Although I regularly use husbands 30D, sons 40D I still think the 400D takes just as good a photo in all areas except fast action sports.

However I have had intermittent problems with my 400D - it is prone to cutting out. LCD screen goes on and off at random, take a photo - sometimes it just does not record. Very annoying but just does it some days and not other.

Here lies the problem it only started happening out of warranty, and Canon Aust. (on my last experience) takes about 6 weeks to repair. So guess what I have put up with it.

But I am going to invest in the 5D MKII (mainly into portraiture, landscapes etc) and get the 400D repaired and keep as the family beach camera, because when its working well its a great camera.

Anyone else had this technical problem with 400D/XTi?

I think it might be due to you not taking your eye away at the right time. I have noticed this sometimes, but the camera doesn't lock up or anything and I don't chimp too much when shooting sports so I've considered it a no biggie. But I have a 1DMkIIn on the way right now! Can't wait!

I just picked my XTi/400D up 3 months ago and have over 2000 pictures with it. I love it and I'm just trying to get better at this photography thing. And no problems

I've had my XTi for about 18 months, and I love it. Yeah, I wish I had higher ISO for nature photography, but since I upgraded my editing software from iPhoto to Aperture 2, I am happier w/ my shots.
