Love my XTi! I would not jump to a 40/50D from here. After learning everything in detail and learning more about lighting I will be moving to a 5D mark 1 whenever I am ready, but this camera is all you really need for a majority of things!

I see an XTi as a Lexus and a 5D as a Ferrari!

I think it might be due to you not taking your eye away at the right time. I have noticed this sometimes, but the camera doesn't lock up or anything and I don't chimp too much when shooting sports so I've considered it a no biggie. But I have a 1DMkIIn on the way right now! Can't wait!

While holding camera away from my face you can tap the LCD and it will cut in and out, but as stated early post - only intermittently. Something not quite right I'm sure.

Yeah, that's a little different than what mine does with the LCD. Shaky connection perhaps?

I was going through some old files the other day and came across this surprising image from my XTi. It was shot at ISO 1600, and is excellent in noise control. This is Straight Out Of Camera, only converted to JPEG from RAW. I was thoroughly impressed. I guess it gos to show if you have a somewhat properly exposed photo (even though this is slightly under exposed) noise can be controlled very well.

For the price that you can get it at, the XTi is amazing. It's a little awkward to hold without a grip (which is why I got one) and I wish high-ISO shooting would be a little less noisy (but hey, that's what noise reduction software is for, right?), but overall I don't plan on getting a new body for maybe another year. I kind of got hooked on L's after I rented one, so...most of my funding is gonna be fueling that cause

Yeah, It's a great camera, but I just got a 5D recently because it does offer somewhat better IQ, as well as more options and controls, not to mention the better/bigger grip. It also has amazing high-ISO performance.
Many people frown upon the XTi, and say it's 'unprofessional', but it is indeed an amazing little camera.

not only that, I saw one listed on here for $275! Can you believe that?!

just got a 40d used but canon serviced to better than new and gonna keep the xti for a while as i learn the 40

xxd build is better,. but heavier/larger/etc
need a grip for it too

anyway the pics won't be any better as the iq is essentially the same, but the ergonomics are better

now for a full frame............... lol

Don't be a slacker, cover your ...

Put a bag over that camera! This is precisely the reason why I opted to move up to the 1D MkIIn body, but with used XTi's coming down in price so much I may have to pick up one again just to have as a backup. For me, the 10 MP is just about right for image sizes.

What happened to this thread? It died for over two months. The XSi is getting that much hold now?

I don't get what is so much better about the XSI over XTI. I was going to get the XSI but figured if I have the money for that why not get a 40d. Then waited on b&h's website to order then last minute changed my mind to get an XTI.

For what I paid for ($329) I am completely falling in love with this camera all over again haha

Oh and just wondering for all you other XT/XTI shooters out there. What lense do you have on your camera most of the time? I usually have my 24-70mm f/2.8 on there but have been thinking of getting a 17-55mm f/2.8 IS. Do you think it would be worth it or nahh?

Hello everyone.

I've got a Canon EOS 400D which I am very happy about. I have a question regarding it:

What happens if I turn of the camera during a long exposure? (such as a second of more). Sometimes I find myself regreting (forgetting) some settings on the camera and just waiting out the exposure (typically during night photograhy, freezing).

Thanks in advance,
Fredrik

Well for night photography you do have to do long exposures so that's normal. But I don't think anything bad will happen from turning the camera off during a long exposure. I just dont think you will get the image you were looking for. I could be wrong though.

On my XSi few times its been in the wrong setting the dial moved by mistake same like you......turning it off and on doesnt cause any problems... the shutter just closes and the image is saved...the img wil look odd delete it and shoot again no problem :)
