Dont worry, the more you read the more you will want to buy. That also translates to alot of time spent staring at the "Checkout" Button at B&H and then browsing thru the lenses to make sure thats the one you want... Then a trip back to here to ask...

My latest lens purchase went like that, took me about a week or so to decide.

I use the hand strap, and it's the best thing that's ever happened to my 400D's handling, other than the grip itself. I don't like the camera hanging from my neck (though I do keep the neck strap on, my RC-1 remote is attached to it), but I don't feel safe just holding it at my side (I'm afraid I'll drop it). The hand strap lets me just hang the camera from my hand at my side, without holding it too tightly, if at all.

I did loosen it up so it wouldn't restrict my handling of the camera, and at first I thought it felt too lose, but it turns out that the strap still keeps the camera pretty tightly wrapped onto my hand, even if it feels loose.

Welcome to POTN! There are many helpful and friendly folks here, not to mention all of the great tutorial information (oops, I guess that I did mention it).

I *just* received my XTi last night...have taken a whooping 20 pictures with it so far.

The controls are a tad bit different than my XT so tryign to get used to that.

I have an Opteka battery grip and am thinking really hard about the hand strap.

Should be fun!

Very nice photo as the lighthouse came into focus with the sun. Can you list your Specs when you shot this? Cam/model/Tv/AP?

Thanks

New Topic - High ISO shots on the Xti

I hear lots of talk from the 2-digit folks (20D,30D,40D) about using ISO 800 or something like that in low light conditions and that some cameras have exessive noise when using higher ISO and others handle the high ISO with less noise. I'd be interested in hearing experiences you folks have had with using high ISO on the Xti and what kind of noise you get - maybe some samples with EXIF data.

Also, the Xti has the NR (Noise Reduction) feature in the menu - would be interested in hearing from people that have tested that and how well it works.

BTW that shot is not direct form the camera, I did a little post production work on it(photoshop to correct things and a bit of color to the image). Here is a link to the original.

Unlike in point and shoots, where the higher ISOs are pretty much unusable, I find that the higher ISOs on the Xti work surprisingly well. I'll put it this way, I won't hesitate to bump it up to 800 or 1600 ISO if the situation calls for it. Better to get the shot than not. I've blown up 1600 ISO pictures up to 12x8 without noticing much noise.

But then again, I don't usually pixel peep.
