Well Mark, you should have the results of his second attempt now. Hope he's sorted it properly this time.

Often, these self-proclaimed 'experts' are no more competent than you or I.

I've got my fingers crossed for you mate. (Well that's my excuse for the poor typing.)

I'd want to ask to see him in action. Probably say he has to mind the shop and can't do it 'til after hours. Is it a recognised pro service outlet?

Not very good at all Mark. I'm always sus of these small guys to be honest. The thing that probably caught him out is the fact that you shoot macro, which will *always* highlight dust more than general photography usage will. Most photographers wouldn't have noticed the non removal of dust, and would have though 'job well done'.

For his sake, I really hope that cleaning attempt #2 is done ASAP and is done right.

OMG what a mess Mark - you should have it back by now and the delay in you posting is a little worrying!

Fingers crossed.

Hiya All,

Well I'll let you all be the judges on this latest cleaning, the guy has obviously tried but it's still not clean am I being to harsh ??

By my standards , there should be no muck at all ??

The shot is not that good to be honest as I couldn't be arsed, just looking at it p es me off, I'll phone Lehmanns tomorrow ask their advise & if I get no joy there I'll go to Canon UK & they can Lab test it, but I can't send it till the postal strikes off so by the look of things it's goina be a few wks before things are sorted I guess, bloody frustrating or what

Cheers for now
Mark

Mark - not sure what you did to the shot but I assume it's been PP'd a bit- I suspect there is only two bad spots on the RHS now which is a lot better than it was. Try just taking a few normal macro shots at say F13 to see how bad it shows in use.

Hi Mark
Well it looks a lot better and less worrying than the previous pic, but I agree with above comments, a lot of it has simply moved to the right of the picture - especially that longer piece bottom right, and that is something I personally would not be happy with. I might accept the smaller bits but not that larger bit.

I think if it were me and I wanted it resolved quickly, I would pay and have it couriered to Canon and not rely on the postal service right now - but I think I would phone someone at Canon first, if I could.

Yeah he has swiped all the crap to the side, he obviously used a brush or something.
I personally would have tried a dust aid on this to lift the majority of the dirt off.
Swiping to the side like that with a brush is asking for it to be scratched
especially with that coating on the 400D AA Filter.
those other two spots which I can see, those I wouldn't worry about too much, but all that crap moved to the side I would want to get rid of.

That is un-acceptable. This dude does not how to clean a sensor period. Ask for a money back. Ask them what method(s0 they used to clean it? If the answer is not wet cleaning...ask for your money!

that piece of gunk is the same you had before, so I assume they are blowing can-air on it. Just my guess.

Hiya All,

I'm now in touch with Canon UK as I want to find out what this crud is & where it came from ( nothing to do with changing lenses ) I can't help feeling there is something ' Within ' that's causing this problem, it's obvious that whatever it is it's oily/sticky & as this occurred when the lens was already on there & had been for wks. then it's gota be internal surely. so we shall wait & see what Canon have to say for themselves eh.

Brian,

I just hit the auto fix, I've taken a few shots including some Landscape with the 17-70 & the crud is still as plain as the nose on ones face I'm now concerned that the clarity isn't so good things look a bit ' Misty ' so for my own piece of mind I want Canon to have a look see, I'm just so gutted

Allan,
He used swabs of some sort, it just seems strange that it won't come off as it obviously can be moved around, my fear is that is some mineral oil & it's coating the sensor & maybe scratching it, as I said above to Brian I've taken some shots & they look ' Misty ' which is most disconcerting & also hold up my theory that whatever it is, it is being spread rather than removed, I hear where you're coming from about the two spots but clean means clean
Gordon, that's very tempting

Thanks for all comments
Cheers for now
Mark

What I'm really hoping is that Canon doesn't blame this guy for screwing the sensor cover, or if it's a problem with some internals within the lens box doing this...

Good luck!

Dave
