I'm using my 20 D since 1 year but now I get a lot ( min 1/3 of a 2 gig card) of compromised images (can't open ) or images are having on the side or bottom huge distructions.
What has changed? Any suggestions?

What software are you trying to use to open the RAW files?

Can you post results as JPG, or take a screen shot of what you're seeing?

And, if you shoot in RAW + JPG, does it happen only to the RAW result?

jpg files look fine? Perhaps make sure your firmware isn't corrupted and reinstall it. Format your memory cards as well.

Are you maxing out the cards space when shooting? If so that could be corrupting some of the data as the shots left on a card when shooting raw are only estimates.

Try reformatting your card. If you've done a lot of erasing data trails remain and can become corrputed. Reformatting should solve the problem.

EDIT: if you search this forum for 'corrupt pictures' or 'corrupt files' you may find others who have had hardware problems cause this to happen. One talks about USB errors in transport from the CF, another about a bad RAM chip in the PC itself. This might be hard to track down.

Can you try import/view with DPP on another PC?

What kind of card are you using? I've had issues with off-brand cards. Not worth the "savings"

Also - you should be formatting your card everytime you use it back in the camera from emptying it. The camera format, not the computer. I've never had a corrupt image on my Sandisk cards, and the ones I'm using now have had probably 30k images through the three main 4GB cards I use in the last 9 months or so. I had one card that wouldn't read ONCE, and the Sandisk software was able to recover all the images without issues.

I used a 2 GB ScanDisk Ultra II and had the issue also with 1 GB Lexar card.
I did not reformat the card before use.
When I shoot 5 picture in a row (same scenario) I only got 1 out of it.
It is either a picture like see original post, or massage that the file is corrupted and can not be opened (or converted to Jpeg...)

Hmm two cards are doing this?

Can you repeat it - like format the card in the camera and shoot a bunch, will it still give you corrupt images?

Also, maybe try these cards on a different camera as well...Sounds to me like the cards are bad...
