I went to the Woodland Park zoo a couple weeks ago with my gf, conditions were mostly overcast with some sunshine later on in the day. It was a great learning experience for me. I seen alot of Canons out there which gave me a really bad case of the "I wants" hehe. All shots are handheld as well. Im kicking myself for not documenting the correct names for each of the animals

All pictures were ran thru CS2 noise reduction, resized to 25% and ran with a very slight unsharp mask.

2. ISO100 f/3.5 1/30 18.8mm
Background was blue in that section of the exhibit, Im really wishing I could shoot RAW, from all the jpeg artifacts in the blue.

#4 was my favorite shot of the whole day, infact it made my day. Zoo squirrels up here are big time teases. They pose, will let you get in close then move. I put my camera into burst mode and chased this squirrel for a good 5 mins, this happend to be the only shot with acceptable focus. Not the best shot, but it sure was fun.

Shooting the golden lion monkey things was a challenge, since I was behind some dirty glass and it was a bit dark. Past ISO200 noise is VERY noticeable on my camera :(

Ill post more later after work.

F/2.8 would have been a godsend that day, after reading Understanding Exposure and playing with my camera I would kill to have another 1-2 extra stops of freedom, not to mention being able to go smaller than F/8 would be nice as well.

#1, 2, and 4 are all really dark. Have you tried to lighten then in post processing?

Imported jpeg into lightroom then turned up the exposure, clarity, vibrance, saturation, played with the luminance and saturation levels in the colors and thats about it.

Nice pics.

Did you PP them after you shot them?

Everything I did was listed in the original post. Im not a big fan of alot of PP work, but I can say I wish that I had bought Understanding Exposure prior to going out to the zoo.

IVe adjusted the brightness of my monitor, so Ill make a few exposure adjustments to the remaining pics.
