Hi, I'm just wondering if I can post some engagement pictures here for comments? I had them in the critique forum, but doesn't seem like many people would want to look at them. Also, I would like to learn more to become a wedding photographer, so I would really love to hear from the real wedding photographers from here.
So, please let me know and I will post the pictures here.

Thanks

Please do. A lot of people do. Just make sure you're not too thin skinned :)

What do you think about the composition, color, lighting...is it too busy, is it too soft....Although I would love to know that you like them and they are perfect, I know they are not. So, please feel free. I really want to improve. Thanks

EDIT: changed the pictures size to meet the forum's rule. Sorry.

Please post the images with the longest dimension 800 pixels or less, as per forum rules. They're too hard to see at 1024px, i'd have to scroll to see the whole image esp for the portrait ones.

Hello... yes they are bright and yes they are busy. I like to focus on the couple. They look standard in posing, but I really like photo's where the couple is interacting. The lighting is nice.

Whoa, give us time! ;) You just changed the images to a reasonable size!

I personally find them a bit busy. In the first two, the lady's bouquet is lost in the background. The frame seems crooked in #2 (that or the photo is taken with a tilt), which bugs me.

All in all, they seem very posed and rigid images. I prefer to ask the couple to be themselves, have fun, laugh (vs smile) and enjoy the moment. They make for cherished images.

If you can, I'd go outside to take the pictures. Use a somewhat shallow DOF to isolate the couple from the background.

BTW, I'm not saying that these are bad, just stating my approach to it and a few suggestions.

Thank you very much everyone. These are the kind of comments I'd like to know about. And yes, I also think number two is tilted to the right a little isn't it?
Again thank you all. If there is anything else, feel free to throw them at me. I can take it.

They are colorful and well exposed and I think you have done what the couple would like to see.

There could be a cultural difference in the style and it does take some getting used to .. but the pictures are fine.

Wow, these look a LOT like the engagement photos you would get in east asia. But your location says California. Most of the people I know way out there get studio engagement shoots that look a lot like those.

LOL...that's very true. These are actually my own engagement photos that my future mother in law took for us. Most of the comments here are somewhat what I expected. She tends to like to crop very tightly and I guess the camera with a bracket and a flash is kinda heavy for her so some of the shots are tilted. She also really wanted us to pose. You can tell that my fiance is forcing the smile in some poses. The problem is that she used to take some photography class way way and I mean way back then while I have taken non, beside the fact that she is my future mother in law. So all my suggestion (except for lighting and how to use the camera) are kind of ignored. Its not that I blame her for these photos. I actually kind of like these. But I was going to put the camera on the tripod and use the timer and take the pictures myself. But then she really insisted. We also went to the Huntington Garden before and had some shot taken by her and so I knew her style. But .... I'll try to make the best out of it.

By the way, we are Vietnamese. so we are all the way out to the east of Asia;). And yes, we are in California, but the engagement was still very traditional. Thanks for all the comments again. I really learned a lot.

Yes, the poses are formal but for the culture and the clothing, it is probably appropriate. Thanks for the explanation. The colors are busy and the lighting overexposed. Good first attempt.
