The joys of global warming..

I've been experimenting with my flash setup (MT-24EX and RRS bracket) trying to get images with little or no reflections in them. These shots are the end result of about a month of trial and error leading up to the last few days.

yer i saw these on your flick gallery.i was amazing at how your getting so close to the dragon fly with out it flying off..have u ever used a 1.4 teleconverter on the mpe-65..?

i didnt understand why your shooting at 4:1 at fstop 14,,?surely your loose lots of sharpness?

p-s - i love the new lighting..

I haven't tried the TC yet, but I've seen a few shots with it and it's not too bad.

Looking at the 4x and 5x shots can you tell that I'm losing detail? You'd actually have to compare them with the shots that I've taken at F8 and lower at 100% pixels to see a difference -even in a poster sized print it would be difficult to see, and you'd probably pick the F14 print as being better since it has more depth of field. The MPE-65 loses a lot of detail at F16 when you go above 2x, but just coming down 1/3 of a stop to F14 makes a big difference in image sharpness. Try it...

If I hid the EXIF data you would never have known that I shot that 4x image at F14...

your right i woudlnt..il try it today..great shots buddie.

How do you get so close? The best I have been able to do is to get about 4 feet away before they fly off. Incredible shots!

this is what i want to know..do u go out in the morning when its cold?

Shooting Dragonflies

I go to places where there are a lot of them, and in the heat of the day when they are the most active...

Nope, in the heat of the day actually. I want them to be active and feeding -if they are occupied then they are less likely to care about me getting close...
