Great shots Dal,
I'm a very newbie in macro, but getting addicted now.
I have a cannon 100mm f2.8. Can you or anyone explain what I need to do to get my lens up to 5:1. The 5x picture above that you took at 5:1, is that right? It's really impressing me.
Thanks again Dal.

Yes, the last image is at 5x. The most I've been able to push out of the 100mm is about 3:1 with 62mm of extension tubes and a 500D diopter or a 1.4 teleconverter. But it's a good thing to get some practice shooting at 2x and 3x with your 100mm before you buy the MPE-65...

Thanks Dal,
The canon 100mm f2.8 is 1:1. Now I want to push out 2:1 or 3:1, all gear you listed above which one do you recomment me to buy? I'm poor now, so buy one more thing should not change my sistuation. hihihi

Kenko makes a set of tubes that get high marks from everyone who's used them. Link to set at B&H (external link).

Get the tubes and get use to using them -the full set should take you to just over 2:1. Then you have two choices, either the 500D diopter or a 1.4x / 1.5x teleconverter (magnification depends on the brand you choose). The diopter will only take you up to about 2.75x but the image quality at F11 is extremely good. Plus you can use the diopter without tubes to get images like this next shot (notice the bokeh):

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

The teleconverter will take you to just over 3x, but you'll be adding a lot of glass so the image quality isn't as good as the diopter. The TC will give you more working distance, but IMHO working distance is irrelevant -it's the critter and your technique that allows you to get close and not the gear...
