Think you focus better without the focusing lights :)- lovely shots.
BTW you'll have the mods after you- not supposed to post pics more than 800 px longest side.

Odd, I've never noticed a difference when using the focusing lights. Maybe the lights effected the way the camera metered the scene...

..it was dark in the room...so the mantis had to make his eyes bigger to see stuff?mayby?but when the focusing lights come on it lite up his face so his eyes went smaller.mayby?

Look closely at the mantis's eyes -they are compound consisting of hundreds (if not thousands) of lenses. So that dark spot you are seeing is not a pupil, it's just the way the flash reflects / refracts off of the lenses in that area. I see the same effect in dragonflies. I think Brian is correct -you shifted the focus point slightly between frames.

Howcome ? With the MT-24EX, Even if the Focus Lights are turned on, they automatically turn off when you press half-shutter.

so i can get that affect just by shifting the focus point to a different position?as i like this effect more than the 1st pic.

Great shots mj, both of them. I kind of like the first one better.

Nice shots - those black spots definably look bigger to but they also appear to be in a different position. Very strange.
