I just use a plastic coated metal bean pole or a collapsable tent pole. Both about 7 feet tall- just grip the pole in the left hand at the required height and grab a bit of camera aswell (sometimes the lens, sometimes the flash bracket). Works pretty well upto 3:1 with some practice. For shots above that I'm normally resting the camera lens on something (either the same surface as the bug or often a bit of me).

i never knew that..thats good to know cause thats what i do..past 3:1 i rest them on things,.thansk for the info buddie.
