A small Hoverfly. This was taken under a lot of trees that's why the background is so dark.

Excellent shot Brian. I like the dark background in this. The image is very sharp with lots of detail. Nice one.

Amazing shot Brian, especially the full size version! How do you get your shots so sharp? What gear are you using from you collection to achieve shots like this? Any tips would be highly appreciated ;)

Lovely hover Brian, I don't mind the black b/g. It is a flash thing going on that causes the b/g to go black.

Thanks 4hero. I used the 100mm plus the raynox on the front.
As for sharpness just practice at getting the focus spot on to start with.

Thanks Alby. Yes about the flash, but it was under trees, lots of trees.

Lovely shot Brian - the black background is nice for this particular shot, it works well.

Great detail Brian.

Personally, as long as the background is not distracting, I don't worry about it. I think a black background works well for a lot of macro shots.

(Ok, and perhaps it's a lot easier to get the shot... ;) )

I'm less keen on the black BG for this shot, prefer some colour like your lovely damselbug shots. Obviously if foilage is far away and flash is used this isnt always possible. Good detail but not one of your stand out shots.

Agreed and agreed. I got a nice Hover shot the other day, but I'm saving it for the POTN Vol. 2 book, so not posting it in the forums ;)

Cheers Toby. Not a lot I could do under the trees in the dark. A practice shot ?
