Can anyone give me advice on a program to create a webpage?
There experience with it and how they like it compared to others they might have tried.
Also, any advice on a server?

I just use a text editor to make my web pages. but I'm guess that doesn't help you much so I can't comment further on that.

as for servers, I use two... brinkster and IX web hosting.
Both have been good for me.

I use webhero and I like them.

I use a combination of FrontPage and hand-coding to create my webpages. Shhhh ... don't tell ... I'm cheating.

I've been trying to find a cheap (free) web site building program. I'm fairly HTML illiterate so I've been looking for WYSIWYG.

I didn't find anything free that I liked. I have downloaded the trial version of some software from http://www.coffeecup.com/ (external link) and so far, it's pretty good. It's a little different in that they have 30 or more different programs and you only buy what you need or want. Or they have a couple of package deals with 8 or 9 in a bundle. They appear to have good customer service and all that...but I guess the price isn't much different from any of the other mid-level web building programs.

MS has Frontpage, which I've been told to stay away from.
Adobe has Dreamweaver.

You can purchase a template pretty cheap and edit in several programs. MS has eliminated Frontpage and replaced it with Expressions Web. Expressions is much more like dreamweaver format and the frontpage ease. I am growing to like it.
I would recommend godaddy as a hosting company. They are cheap and the tech support is great.

Are you on a Mac or PC..

If Mac I recommend Rapidweaver (external link) (very nice program and very easy to use)

If PC I recommend Effective Site Studio (external link) (bit more expensive but very easy and robust)

That is if you want to design.. if not I know a lot of people like the web templates at Bludomain (external link)

Sever you can go with a couple options...

I use and have used:

Godaddy,HostMonster,BlueHost, and iX Web I would recommend any of them.

Again you could use Bludomain and they would do it all for you.

Hi all, this is my first post ever here.

I have worked as an Advanced Web Developer for many years and I agree Bludomain (external link) is a great, inexpensive and professional way to go. A friend of mine purchased a package for $200. She says it is extremely easy to use and tweak.

Another option (not as professional but easy to use) is a blog from wordpress (external link). Very cheap, tons of templates to choose from ....

If you are going to design it yourself, Dreamweaver is a great program.

If you have or know some one with Flash 8 then this is a great easy to use product to add to your website Slide Show Pro (external link).

Web Hosting:
I have worked with well over 100 different web hosting companies and I highly recommend Liquid Web (external link). They are Fast, friendly and have great customer support.
