Well, it's been a week. M24, did you go to Canon to get your sensor cleaned? How did it turn out?

My 40D had dust on the sensor from the beginning, too. And not just stuff that wouldn't come off after blowing, but stuff that wouldn't come off after several wet cleanings with E2. Mind you, I'm using the same technique that I've used successfully to remove all the dirt from the sensor of my 30D, so I doubt it's my technique that's at fault. I used varying amounts of E2 on each pass.

I've attached the results. The first image shows the bits of dust very clearly.

But you know what? I'm not going to worry about it. Why? Because these bits of dust don't show up in pictures at all. The second image is what the first image was derived from -- the original untouched image.

Auto-level is a good way of showing all the dust, but it'll show dust and other junk that would otherwise be invisible even at f/22.

Yes, I did go to Canon in Irvine and got all my concerns addressed. The sensor on my 40D was cleaned perfectly by Canon, but there is more to the story.

I will share the complete story in a new post soon. I had a great time shooting the Miramar Air Show yesterday! I want to sort through the pictures and write up a new post with all the details and also share some images.

Thanks to Rang for your offline support and helpful suggestions, you are one heck of a nice guy, it sure was great to meet you! Thanks also to the rest of you who emailed me and PM'd me with encouraging and supportive comments.

Best,

Michael

My FIRST 40D Err 99'd 10 times in under an hour with three different CF cards and two Canon lenses.

Perhaps your prayers were in vain?

I've always believed that if I don't have anything nice to say or positive to contribute, I shouldn't hold forth.

To each his own, so they say.

Michael - glad to hear your concerns were addressed. Although I might not agree with your views on the condition of your camera, it is YOUR camera and you have a right to express them. On the whole, you have approached this issue with a positive mindset, clearly seeking a constructive outcome and a desire to share with the group.

I look forward to your next post (and pictures) giving the conclusion of this tale.

Sorry to hear that your new 30D has junk on its sensor. I can relate to your situation. My XT was much like yours, however, my 40Ds have not been, in spite of that, I think the 30Ds and 40Ds are incredible cameras.

Best regards,

Michael

Thank you.

There is much more to the story; I am so very glad that I took the camera to Canon, it indeed needed some attention.

As for any lapses in my conduct, in my own defense, a fellow can only take so much. By and large, I believe that I've tried to stay on point, in spite of any negativity. Sure, I'm human, like most of the rest of you -just kidding! :D

I expressed a bit of my temper in response to the posts by the pusillanimous who seem take great pleasure in others grief. In the future, I'll do my best to ignore such detractors and focus on the positive people on this fine forum.

I'll post the whole story soon. I think it's a good one, one that we can all learn from; I certainly did.

Best,

Michael

Gee what's next, another trip BACK to Canon, when there is the return of dust? It's a shame you wouldn't listen to the experienced people on this board....
