Every so often I'll read a thread telling a quasi-painful wedding photography story. I suppose we've all been there whether we told the story or not. This is the first time I've come home from a shoot wanting to get reactions from a broader audience.
The bride at my shoot last weekend was one tough subject. I hesitate to fully elaborate for the sake of sensitivity, so lets just say I had trouble capturing a graceful or elegantly feminine image of this one. My habit is to feel responsible for these kinds of difficulties, telling myself that I need to look deeper and move faster. Then, right in the middle of my best efforts to do so, it happened....
She reached into her bra, pulled out a kleenex that was already way past its prime, discharged her sinuses into it, and then returned the kleenex to its hiding place.
She was already wearing her wedding gown when this happened. I'm fairly certain that this little symbiotic relationship persisted on through the ceremony. Luckily for all in attendance, the kleenex didn't reappear in public again.
This detail was truly the tip of a very awkward iceberg that I struggled to photograph during the remainder of the shoot. At the end of the day I had my usual 300-400 high quality images, but it wasn't easy.
