I am in the same mess - I have dust on my sensor, and have a photo shoot today. I

I don't want to dare clean my sensor for the first time before the shoot just in case the worse should happen.

I called the local camera center, but they can't clean it for me and get it back in time for my shoot - they would need a day or too. I called Ritz but they send it to their service center back East and it takes 6-8 weeks.

Has anyone ever sent their camera to Canon or other places to have the sensor cleaned?

I am frustrated about this and no time to clean it.

Don't!
You should not clean your sensor yourself..

Unless you take the correct precautions, wouldn't you say...??

Look out, there are soon to be many who might lambaste you for bringing this up. You might expect mocking comics, rude offline emails, and who knows what else. Don't let those things, if they happen, get you down.

Yeah, but when a poster repeatedly ignores sound advice about a piddling amount of muck on a sensor, completely over-reacts to what is a complete non-issue, and continues to stamp his feet like a spoilt schoolgirl when he doesn't get his way on the matter, it's no real surprise that some forum contributors choose to demonstrate their frustration.

Not all OPs are the same...

Sensor dirt is a trivial, unavoidable "problem" which can be sorted in a few moments.

I had some dust and normally move what I can around with a blower.

I rarely, if ever, shoot at apertures which would show up the dust - the drop in image quality from diffraction bugs me too much.
