Long story short, I took three bodies into Canon Service Center here in the Toronto Area (Mississauga) 2 Thursdays ago for a free cleaning. On the following Monday I received my 10D body in the mail, I was rather impressed in their prompt service, the camera was as clean as new, I had never actually had it cleaned by Canon in the many years that I had owned it.

I was rather confused by the fact that my other body, the 30D, had not arrived the same day, so I waited, several days went by, with no sign of it. So I called Canon, I eventually ended up finding out by tracking the package that it had in fact been signed for and delivered to a warranty company that works with Canon cameras. However that was not my address and not my signature, and worst of all, I did not have my camera and from what they say, neither did the warranty company. Finally, I had a third body which was incorrectly addressed and was almost lost but I ended up getting it 4 days late after they tracked it down.

After about one week of waiting, non-stop phone calls, many dramatics and threats being made against Purolator from the other receiver, I got Purolator to eventually admit their responsibility in failing to ship the item to me and consequently being unable to recover the camera. From what I think happened, the driver probably stole it. Considering the circumstances, but it does not really matter anymore.

Canon offered to replace my camera with a refurbished 30D and make a deal with Purolator on the claim. Considering my camera was 10 months old, under warranty and in perfect working order, as well as all the stuff I had to go through, I was not the least bit happy. After more calls and faxes etc, Canon skipped giving me a new 30D and offered me a brand new 40D to make up for all the problems I went through with 2 of my 3 cameras...

So basically I wanted to give my story on how I came around to owning a new 40D. I picked it up last night, and have basically learned everything there needs to know about it. I like many of the new features, the large LCD is great, as is Live View, and the focusing seems to be much better than its predecessors. I will go nuts on my visit to B&H and NYC this weekend, and give more feedback on my experienced with it, but I must say, I am very impressed so far.

I would also like to add that Canon turned my frown upside-down, and reminded me of why I am a loyal Canon shooter.

Cheers

you know. Canada Post is terrible. They have one of the most unreliable services in Canada. I cannot understand how and why biz choose to use Canada Post/Purolator over UPS/Fedex. I base the above statement on my past experiences and many of my friend's.

*Their tracking system is useless.
*Their insurance is basically non-existence if the package ever get lost.
*Their driver (this is for Xpresspost for my area specifically) is very very sloppy and lazy. He would often leave signature item out by my front door without getting me to sign it. I called and complained but nothing has changed.
*Their store front is slow as hell.
*The list goes on and on...

Oh, I'm with you on the terrible-ness of Canada Post.

I've actually had something sent to me COD, and apparently the item was to be delivered to my house. Well, I wasn't home, so I was supposed to receive a slip to go pick up the item at the post office. 3 weeks after sshipping, the sender asks why I haven't picked up the package yet. Suffice it to say, the driver was too lazy to leave a pickup slip, and the people at the post office couldn't find my package.

Idiots.

But, yay, you got a 40D!

Canada post RULES!

I live in Bradford, Ontario Canada and there is another "Michael Lambert" Who lives on the same street as i do found this out after this incodient. I know its insane and i love it.

however - I was sitting at home 8 months ago around 6pm just finshed dinner and i got a knock at the door so i went and it was a Canada Post delivery guy asking if a "Michael Lambert" Lived here. I said yes i am him. He said that they had a package for me and asked for some ID before they released it so i said sure thing got my DL and showed it he said great we have had your package for a week now and incorrect house number so he polietly asked me to ensure i give the correct mailing address next time.

I said sure thing sorry about that. Opening it up and to my total shock found a brand new PS3 with 6 games! I was just totally blown away. The return adress was some address in the states and really could not understand what was going on got to thinking maybe it was a belated Xmas gift from the wife knowing they where hard to get and everything.

So needless to say had it opened in hooked up and having a great old time! my wife came home from work i ran to the door greeted her like she was the queen and then back to my game. I tend to go through stages where i just play video games for days and then not touch it for months, so it was nothing to her. Well we went out to rent a movie and i said to her lets buy our first HD DVD movie together tonight and try it out she gave me this horrible stare! She was like " And play it on WHAT?" lol, i knew there was going to be an issue! I said on the PS3 that i setup today? SMACK she slaps me right there in the video store - " How dare you spend that kind of money with out talking about it!!!" well i right away said to her "Honey we need to go home right now i have something to show you"

well she was just as shocked as i was neither of us could figure it out, well 2 weeks later Mr. Michael Lambert from 5 doors down came over to introduce himself presented a bill of sale for one PS3 system and games and asked if i would not mind if he got his property back.. lol

Well end of story.. funny as hell for me not for him.. However we talk often now as people call him looking for me people call me looking for him..

now dont go to far buddy, they did actually a super job in giving the latest vesion, i beleive they could of had 2 decisions too like a cash value of the 30d or a 30d replacement but the canon rep did what was honest and gave ya what they screwed up on. basically the shipper will pay for it out of the insurance money and the employee who gave it / STOLE IT. will be under investigation and laid off for sure. good luck with ya camera, ya want to teach me how to use it lol i got one having troubles with focus on it and i not sure if its me or camera.
