that explains strange exif which indicates a professional colour printer rather than a camera. I like the composition.

Welcome to the forum! May I be the first to suggest the Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens if you're looking to upgrade your macro equipment. It's an all around great lens and seems to be a favorite of many macro shooters....add a set of extention tubes and you'll be more than set to take on the macro world :)

Welcome to POTN Sean, and to the macro section, as others have said, you're off to a good start, especially with the setup that you're using. A few pointers:

1. Know your insect. If you know the insect (or Arachnid) then you have some idea of its behaviour.

2. Approach subjects slowly, and preferably from lower than they are.

3. Don't make loads of noise when you approach subject (goes without saying I guess).

4. Don't block the sunlight, especially with flies (via your shadow). Most insects will almost certainly take off.

5. If a fly takes off, wait a second, it'll usually come back to the same spot.

6. Practice lots, it really does help you get better.

You might want to consider going digital, it'll be a lot cheaper and easier for you to take lots of shots and practice etc. A 2nd hand 350D would be a good starter, and you can use your existing lens :) It also has a built in flash.

Dave
