Definition of a "WOW" photo... and an example or two? ;o)

I thought I'd start a thread asking you fellow wedding photographers how you define a "WOW" photo. Also show us an example from your own portfolio. I've seen the term used in many a thread... not just here, but on other boards as well. Do you consider a "WOW" photo based on it's technical merits? Or do you look more at the moment that was captured? Maybe even a combination of the two?

A wow is great technically, is a great moment, and is composed well too. That's why it's a wow... it has everything.

I don't know if I have anything I'd call worthy of being called a WOW shot.

A wow shot is a photo where all of the elements come into perfect harmony with each other - emotion, composition, moment, exposure, etc.

Lloyd - are you kidding me? Post some shots, will yeah!? I have yet to see one of your photos that aren't a wow shot! lol

I call it the curse of the creative mind. I never like anything I do for more than a couple of seconds - but then, I'm no where near your level!

I'm with you. I am still at the point where I'm ok as long as the couple keeps smiling when they look through the proof book. :oP

Oh comon, I've seen some of the photos that are posted here! There is no way that after you take a shot or once you see it on your computer, you love the shot and are like "heck yeah, I did good!" ... or is it just me?

I love it for the few seconds it takes for my brain to register all of my mistakes. Then I'm back to thinking I suck.

If I just stay with the moment that I've captured, I'm ok...but once I start seeing the technically wrongs stuff, I do the same thing.

Hey, I'm not ashamed to post my WOW shots ...

When I took these on the back of my LCD ... I said "wow" ... I love them myself, and I don't care what anyone else thinks! LOL

On a slightly different level of "wow" ... everything just connected for these next two shots, and that made me go "wow" lol

I'm nowhere near your level either Lloyd but I feel the same. I consider all my images crap and when it comes to my portfolio I'm selecting the least crappy of the crappy...not the best of the best.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)
