I checked that link you posted, I'm sure you are correct.

Very good shots, yellows held together well. I'm not sure on the ID either, but my first thoughts with the long proboscis was the same as Toby's. That said, I've seen flies going for the pollen as well on flowers. Very interesting capture, perhaps someone can submit it for ID to the Fly forum?

Ive taken one shot of one of these whilst sitting in a big patch of tall grass. I have no idea what it is either. Great shots though.

Agree with the comments made regarding the lighting. You've done very well to hold the details. See, all those scratches were worth it in the end.

Thanks Bernie, I would gladly trade a few scratches for all the skeeter bites that I got this morning. I've got big whelps all over my arms, but I enjoyed it.
