Wouldn't it depend on shooting conditons? Light subject on dark background or dark subject on light background?

What kinda of detail? Best to shoot correctly exposed and really reduce the contrast in PP. That will give the most detail.

Exactly. I've found my 30D's exposure to be quite accurate, but there are times when even spot metering can't give the exposure that is wanted. Then, the adjustment needed might be either up or down as circumstances dictate. I couldn't find an option in the poll that represented my experience, sorry.

I was just curious myself. I always try to correctly expose and PP afterwards, but I constantly hear of people exposing to the right to avoid noise and retain detail.

I was really just curious if it was something I have missed or misunderstood.
