adjusting exposure in ps for macro

if im not shooting in raw,i know i know i should be shooting in raw one day mayby,,any way if i take a pic but its either to dark or to bright what do u need to edit it to make it brighter or darker in ps

click on image (3rd from left at top) scroll down to image adjust then brightness/contrast or levels - with levels try sliding to the bottom of the mountain peak in the histogram, right slider to left lightens, left slider to right darkens.

Another handy way (and seems to generate less noise than either doing it via image > adjustments > exposure or the brightness/contrast option) is to duplicate the layer (ctl + j). Change the blending mode of this layer from normal to screen. Adjust the opacity to suit.

edit: adjusting via levels (sorry missed that on the first reading) will also adjust the contrast of the image.

levels...period. itl will keep the most quality compared to the rest when done right.
