10D built in flash problem

I have a 10D which has received very little use from new. I want to sell it now but have a slight problem. Although the camera is like brand new, the built in flash will not fire (It will open up but not fire). this happened when the camera was only a couple of months old and I delayed in sending it to Canon for repair and of course missed out on the warranty.

The only thing I can think of which may have caused the problem is that I tried using a non-dedicated flashgun on it (It's all I can think of).

Has anyone else had a similar problem with any similar model? Any idea of cost for repair?

Thanks!

It is quite possible that your third party flash damaged the flash circuit on the 10D. Third party flashes can develop up to 400 Volts on the pins. The 10D can't handle much more than 5 volts.... (Canon addressed this and newer Canon DSLR's will handle the higher voltages).

I have no idea how much it will cost to repair... I'm guessing it will probably be cheaper to buy a second hand 380EX or 420EX flash and use that instead of getting the camera repaired by Canon.

Just a thought Jim, Would a flash unit like the 380EX function if the in-built flash circuitry was damaged?
