Colour problems with new DSLR

Hi there, iam a newbie and i have just strarted using my 400D.
My problem is that the first series of sunset shots i took came out black and white. The basic shooting modes gave me colour shots but when i started to play with the exposure and shutter speed it seems to have gone a bit wrong.

Any help would be grteatly appreciated,

Read your manual. It will be in the Picture Styles in the menu. You will have set it to Black and White some how. The best advice I can give anyone new to photography is read the manual to learn how to use the thing, and then go out and..... SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!
