I was on the boardwalk in the nature reserve, with the deck about 4 feet above the water. Shot with my Rebel XT and my 75-300mm zoom (no macro). During my stay I also got pictures of egretts, turtles, geckos, bottle-nose dolfins' fins above the water, and some very blurry pics of gator or crocs (don't know which one inhabits the area)  HOSTED PHOTO please log in to view hosted photos in full size. It's nice that you could take advantage of the clear water. In most of my pictures of snakes in the water you can't see more than a half inch or so below the surface. And it would be alligators in South Carolina.

This was a fairly small stream, but the bigger ponds were very murky
