Well I've just returned from a wedding and something happened there that prompts me to wonder, and ask this question. My assistant/second was getting some shots at the back of the church where there was a tub/fountain setup with the holy water. She was backing up to get a shot of the front of the church and she tripped and fell INTO the tub of holy water. It was loud and horrific for her. She even said "J. C." pretty loudly. Her camera's went in with her, but thankfully she managed to keep them dry. People laughed and I just felt horribly for her. She was the butt of everyone's jokes all night and of course the jokes got more hurtful as the alcohol consumption increased. So let's hear about all of your moments that had you wish you could crawl into a hole and die. :P

Holy...
Thats horrific for her. Hope you gave her a good hug after that.

I typically trip up at least once during a shoot - and almost certainly will try to take a pic with the lens cap on... Grrr, "your cap is still on!"

No one saw me, so maybe not too embarrassing, but I opened up my gear bag from my trunk to grab the camera. I yanked and my not secured or bagged 430ex came flying (literally in the air) out of my bag and onto the parking lot with a slash. Well, I did have a second flash, thankfully, but people in the lot wondered who crashed. I ducked. :)

But my most embarrassing thing I do is keep the lens cap on when not using the camera. The subjects always laugh at me. :(

haha.. well lifting the camera up to take the photo with a lens cap still in play COULD be embarassing I suppose. I've done it a couple times but I never really thought of it as being that bad. Mainly because I pick it up as soon as I look through the viewfinder to see... well, nothing. I then take the cap off and sometimes they laugh, but I laugh along with them and make jokes like... "... yeah go ahead and laugh, but remember.. you paid me." hahaha.

But if that would have happened to me, "falling in the holy water", I probably would have wanted to give up weddings forever"

I did one thing embarassing though. I had my battery pack connected to my 580 flash and set the camera down on the table to get a drink. I turned and walked to the water fountain but forgot to disconnect the battery pack which was strapped to my belt. Camera, flash and all went to the floor in front of a bunch of the guests. I had to pick up a backup flash because the shoe was broken.

true story.
Was shooting the brides family group photo.
left the cap on, they started laughing.
removed it and quickly took the shot pretending id planned it that way.
We sold 10 8x10's of that shot.
They said it was the only shot they ever had of the brides father smiling.
To this day they think I planned it that way.

Well, it's good to hear I'm not the only one with lens cap brain freeze. :)

Not so much embarassing as horriffic - i once knocked over a bottle of red wine all over the B&G's table !!!! This was whilst they were all lining up for the greeting line!

I have never seen waiters work so fast....they saved my skin that day!

I think my most embarassing moment was one time when I did Formals with the B&G and parents. I had the parents stand together and hold hands and they all did without complaining until someone casually mentioned that the one pair has been divorced for years. Ooooops!

I do the lens cap thing all the time. I usually take and keep it off but those few times when I put it back on.. I forget I did so the next shot my clients get a giggle out of it
