I have a 40d and went on a 7 day cruise and took 2000 pictures, I bought my camera at circuit city and I payed for the extended service plan which comes with 2 free cleanings a year once I got back I called cc and they said they couldn't clean it, I was given the run around but eventually the manager told me he would replace the camera if I wanted him to.

well my question is should I be worried? I don't want to replace my camera for no reason.

I fail to see what's wrong with your camera from what you've posted about it...

same here. i am guessing that it got a bit dirty during the cruise and he wants CC to clean it for him (like they said they would). if this is correct, i would simply clean it myself and just keep on shooting (i doubt that i would even let CC clean my camera even if they offered..)

why would you be fine with them replacing a perfectly working camera just because it got a bit dirty? what is going to happen the next time it gets dirty?

Ask them to refund the cost of the extended service plan if they don't want to follow through

I don't see what is the problem in getting a new camera whether it's dirty or faulty

If their response is to replace rather than repair, why not take it? It's their call, and it gets you the guaranteed service faster. They'll replace from stock, but send out for cleaning.

If your camera has a few specs left on the sensor, take it to a reputable local camera shop and have them check it out. Do not let CC touch your camera in any way ! You might as well let someone at Burger King help you out. Get a refund on the service plan at CC. Use Canon's standard warranty. It should cost you around 40 bucks to get it cleaned at a local shop. Good Luck !

Is this how these places make more money sell the extended service on the gamble you will never ask for it? Hard to see how they make money if the solution for a dirty sensor is replace the camera.

You do not want their customer care cleaning your camera. Ask for your extended warranty money back. You can clean it if it needs cleaning. There is plenty of help and the proper cleaning kits on the web. CC has no clue about cleaning your sensor and will probably mess your camera up.

Are you sure it needs cleaning?:)-?

If that camera works good keep it. The next one might not work.
