1. It is not an extended warranty

2. I did not buy it for the cleanings, I bought it for the 4 year free replacement no questions asked.

3. who wouldn't want there camera cleaned after it has been at the beach for 7 days, it did get salt spray on it a few times, but never got wet.

This is my first slr camera and I don't want to take any chances, I don't know how well cameras stand up to the elements and that is why I asked the question, there is nothing wrong with the camera.

When I took the camera in the store manager told me they don't clean digital cameras, when I pointed out the service plan gives me a free cleaning every year he told me he would replace the camera if I wanted.

Another reason I didn't want to replace is they don't have any 40d's in stock then and didn't know when they would.

I think they went far beyond what 99% of other stores would of offered.

there is a big difference between dirty and salt And for the people that asked why I want the camera cleaned, you obviousily have no clue on what salt does to electronics, I have a boat that I use to fish in the salt water and it is a never ending battle with corrosion at all electrical connections.

I am more worried about long term effects of salt not so much about it being dirty, I guess I didn't make that very clear, the 40d is suppose to be better weatherproofed?

Well.. I would assume that if you are such a professional as to what Salt spray from the Ocean would do to electronics.. I would have taken the new camera deal.. Do you really think that they would clean "Every part" of the camera and guarantee you that they get all the salt??? Thinking long term.. I don't think so.. I think the manager or whoever you spoke with did you a favor...

dude... you asked the most random question and gave no additional information about what you were on about... what you said in your second post is what you should have said in your first post and dont get narky when people try to help. You seem to know exactly what you want to do about the situation anyways.

40d is only slightly weatherproofed around the bay doors not really around the buttons etc for rain/drizzle. Salt water air not so sure... i say if they will give you a new one every time you go through harsh conditions then why not! go for it! 40D + warranty seems cheaper than a MK3.

Wish i could get a new one after trips up north in W.Australia... the dirt is so fine and red.... like baby powder fine... gets into everything. 5D was covered in it after last trip, especially after a chopper landed on the cam bag and blew it 20m across the pad.

I don't understand this part: ‘it did get salt spray on it a few times, but never got wet.’

There is not much dry salt on the beach unless we are talking about Dead Sea.
Most of salt is in the (salty) water.

Do you mean that it got a few sprays of salty water, but it never got submerged?

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.
