2007-10-06 Jen and Matt Wedding

I shot a wedding with Jeff (member Toogy, but I'm sure you already knew that) this afternoon. It was fantastic, and, after finally finding the bride's house (the streets changed 2 weeks prior and she didn't let Jeff know!), we had a blast.

Looking back, it probably wasn't my strongest, but, I had a great time and given the harsh light/time constraints, I think I did ok

*sighs with happiness* so, so good. Really. I gotta learn how to do that sun flare thing! Quick question - are you spot metering these?

I love sun flare .. I don't know why. I agree that I may overdo it sometimes, but I think it adds such a neat effect to the photo. I at least always make sure I grab one with and one without.

Spot metering - nope. Typically I'm in manual ...

I shoot manual, too, but I don't have it set to spot meter, just overall meter, which is not always accurate ... so I try to remember to meter off of my palm or whoever the palest person in the scene is - or a white object. I'm such a hack.

When I do shoot out of Manual, I'm in Av and just use evaluative metering. I use spot sometimes though, I'm sort of all over the place.

Well you're no help ... I'm trying to decide which method I want to go with. I decided I like center-weighted focusing better than multi-point, but metering ... meh.

I shot AV the other day and hated the results - luckily they were just pictures of my kid. I'm so used to shooting Manual now, it's second nature ...

Yeah, I definitely do not like multipoint focusing. For the most point I'm center AF point, focus + recompose. But sometimes (20% of the time) i'll switch focusing points.

I find that when I shoot in Av, I'll bump the EC based on what I'm shooting. Or I'll just do a meter in Av to see what shutter it gives me then throw it into M.

Sorry I couldn't help yeah more! LOL ... I sort of just go with what I feel is right for the specific moment. I find that if you can fully understand how your camera will interpret a scene, you can do all the adjusting in your head before you even bring your eye to the viewfinder. For the most part, I'll get the exposure dead on on the 1st try, allowing me to focus more on other parts of the photo

I should probably practice more in Av so I know what it will do ... I'll try bumping the EC next time.

My 18 year old nephew wants me to take pictures of him tomorrow, so maybe I'll try it out on him.

no 1: works very well
no 2: u have a ghost with no shadow in your image, lmao - well spotted opportunity
no 3 and 4 - dont do much for me
no 5: captured emotion well - nice oog back ground
n06 : dont work for me - cant clearly see what u intended with this image, maybe they will?
no 7 and 8: 8 works better, both nice setting too
no 9: yeah - like these too, u just aim into the sun? i guess
rest quite nice too, but not spectacular
no 14: might work great if a portrait close crop? just my opinion

I think you are an amazing artist, Bryan. The only one I have issues with it the one on the bench under the tree. The shadows look like skin blotches. But that may be the effect you were looking for. I am going to have to try the one with the camera on the ground. That is really sweet. Outdoor with sunlight in leaves are the perfect fall combo. You are terrific, my friend.

That's a very nice set of images - I don't know who will be the first shooter at the next wedding with shots like these

Thanks for the detailed C&C kobus, I really apreciate it. #6, I tried something new, i have a couple different angles of it, not sure if it worked or not with this one. #3 and 4 mean a lot to the groom - he does off roading with that jeep, so he wanted some shots in it.

Thanks Suzy! I debated putting that one up, but I just loved the emotion in it and decided that that outweighed the stupid sun spots! Jeff had them all up set up there when the sun was behind the clouds (it was REALLY cloudy) then right as we're about to shoot, the sun came out. It was really annoying!

Thanks Wazza! While I feel I have learned tons and have improved greatly, I still have lots to look forward to! Jeff is truly an amazing photographer, I can't wait to be performing at his level
