I'm looking to get a new camera bag, something larger than my Slingshot 200 and also able to take a laptop as well. I've pretty much settled on one of the Lowepro Vertex bags but I'm concerned about cabin baggage restrictions.
As far as dimensions go, they are all 1cm too deep (for the UK) but so long as they can be squashed down that should be OK. As far as I can tell, even the 300 should actually pass most restrictions that I've seen on websites. But I have seen another post where someone said there would be no chance with the 300. I think that was speculation rather than hard fact but wonder what others have experienced.
The other aspect to the restrictions is the weight. I'm flying with Air New Zealand in a few weeks and they say they have a 7Kg weight restriction on cabin baggage. My understanding is that the Vertex 300 weighs nearly 4Kg on its own and a smallish laptop would add another 2Kg. So that leaves a paltry 1Kg for photographic gear. That being the case I might as well get the Vertex 100 since I couldn't make worthwhile any use of the space available in the 200 and 300.
I've never been asked to weigh my cabin baggage before but I wonder whether Air New Zealand always weigh it, or weigh it if the bag looks large/heavy. I'd be grateful for any feedback.
Thanks
