..... is all I could manage today.

I felt a bit out of practice - you know how sometimes you think you have lost the plot when they dont quite come out as good as you know you can do (or maybe its just me that gets moments like that lol).

Anyway, these were all licking up the yummy stuff on next door's ivy:

except for this spider who was waiting in the wings - is this some sort of crab spider?

Beautiful shots Linda. The spider look a bit like a Lynx spider that's expecting maybe. I could be way off though.

Look good to me :) particularly like the last 2 shots.
Think the spider is a small web spider not a crab (not an orb web either)

Well, if this is losing the plot, then I really must see some shots when you're 'on the ball'...

#3 of the fly tongue is my favourite, though the wasp runs it close. Very nice captures.

Good series Linda, I know what you mean about not being happy with yourself being rusty ;) Not sure on the spider in #1, but it's definitely not a crab spider. You've also managed to capture a odd looking dronefly, don't think I remember seeing one like it being posted on here before. I quite like the last 2 images, and the standout in the series if the last one, cracking shot.

Well, what can I say, but a huge thanks to you all for giving such positive comments on the pics - I am truly surprised because I was picking holes in each one of them.

Dave, the dronefly is Eristalis tenax - I pawed over and over the detail of this one as I am trying to get more proficient with IDing them. A chap I know had one similar and its been a tough job deciding on tenax or pertinax. What clinched it for me, were the very end of the front feet for tenax as they are dark, pertinax are orange. Even droneflies can be very difficult to correctly ID and its surprised me how difficult it actually is to try and be as correct as possible.

Many thanks again everyone, its lifted my confidence up a bit again :-)
