It has been several years since I have used a SLR and my skills have diminished greatly but I thought some other newbies might benefit from my mistakes.

This weekend was the annual Bikes, Blues, and BBQ motorcycle rally in Fayetteville, AR, and supposedly a hundred thousand plus bikers were in town. I thin the publicity figures might have been slightly elevated but there were a bunch of bikes here. I have had my 40D for about 2 weeks now and thought the parade would be a good time to try it out.

I learned a lot! I shot in AI Servo and low speed continuous shooting. It was my first experience with AI Servo and it was great. The camera was doing a great job of focusing but my panning skills are lacking. The camera did its job but I ruined a lot of pictures with camera shake. I think I must have been stabbing the shutter. The bikes were going by so fast I couldn't keep up. I left the ISO at 100 because it was a bright day but I should have upped it to help with my shutter speed. I haven't counted the sharp pictures but out of over 400 shots I would guess maybe a third or even fewer are really sharp. That might not be too bad for my first try. I was using the kit lens and I have to say I love this camera. It is so far beyond anything I have ever used I just hope with some practice I can keep getting better.

I will post some shots that I think are pretty sharp. Except for some cropping on a few shots these are straight from the camera.
