Exported for email, manual settings for ambient light, +2/3 for backlit birds - I think I needed around +1 instead. I let Lightroom set auto-tone, I think I'm going to take that off on these shots.

Both shots were taken at roughly 6 feet range. High ISO on the humminbird due to it being later in the day, to get the shutter speed up. The shot of the sparrow (wren? not sure) was actually at night - it had perched up on an electrical box and didn't move until morning.

Comments/critique welcome - I'll repost tomorrow with the auto-tone removed.

Pretty good shots Mike. And that is definately a wren, and I would love to see more shots of that little guy. For birds, you might try setting the 30D on Av Mode, set the ISO to 200 or 400 to start and see if that gives you enough shutter speed to work with. If you set the On swithch to the second On, then you can use the rear wheel to set exposure compensation while shooting. And always shoot in RAW mode. :)

And the last couple... I've become completely fascinated by hummingbirds...

Mike, that last looks like a Cardinal. From Kosovo?

Yes Sir, it is a cardinal...but I was home on vacation (Texas), not at work in Kosovo.

There's some some sort of small bird of prey that I see a fair amount of around here that I'd *LOVE* to get some shots of, though...

Well, you can't go wrong shooting those wrens either. ;)

Nope, not at all!! I admit to being a sucker for the hummingbirds and the flashier colored birds (chickadees, cardinals, jays)...but the wrens are damned cute too!
